Are Tech Companies On Our Side?

I’ll be brief.  I want you to do two things if you are interested in the role of technology companies in civilization.

Step 1.  Read Brad Feld’s post on some criticisms that emerging about technology companies.

Step 2. Check Out This Book if you want to dig into the issue.

Please don’t misunderstand my motivation. Technology is great and it can be many other things also.

Operational Lesson #1 from Inside Apple by Adam Lashinsky

I was reminded of some important operational lessons in this very enjoyable book. In the book, a deceptively simple concept is highlighted and named. According to Lashinsky, Apple consistently makes it very clear who is responsible for each task. The person is saddled with the label the Directly Responsible Individual.

Does your company, your department, your team use this approach?

By the way, if someone is specifically responsible, I’m guessing the definition of task is more clear than if no one feels responsible.  I’ll be highlighting a series of the concepts in the coming months.  They will be tagged Keeping Management Simple or KMS.  You’re welcome to call this KMS #1.

As you plan for 2018, who is the DRI for the key goals in your organization.
